Parent Welcome Letter |
|||
August 15, 2008
Dear Parents,
Welcome to Middle School! We hope you are as excited as we are about the coming
school year! Below you will find important information that will explain some
of our Middle School policies. More complete information will be given to the
students in class and to the parents during Open House.
Test Folders
In order to keep you well informed of your child's progress, we will be sending
all of his/her graded work home in a folder each Monday. Please sign the grade
sheet inside the folder and keep the graded papers at home. Signed folders must be returned within two
days.
Homework
Homework will be assigned in accordance with the policies set forth in the
student handbook. Each student begins the nine weeks with a homework grade of
100. Failure to complete a written assignment results in a lowering of the
homework grade by five points. A homework responsibility sheet, found in the
student planner, will be sent home. It must be signed by a parent and returned
the following day, along with the completed assignment.
Discipline
The Middle School Discipline Plan, which includes
rules, consequences, and rewards, will be fully discussed with the students
today. Our discipline policy is extremely effective in keeping order in the
classroom. The students will know exactly what type of behavior is expected of
them, and we are confident that they will act accordingly.
All students begin each week with a conduct grade of 100. Points
are deducted as outlined in the student planner. Repeated misconduct can result
in further consequences, as explained in the student handbook. The weekly
conduct grade, recorded in the student planner, will be sent home every Monday
to be signed by a parent and returned within two days.
Included in our plan are ways to positively reinforce students who
behave appropriately. Students who earn an A for their weekly conduct grade
will be given a reward. Students who
earn all A's and B's in conduct during a quarter can participate in a reward
activity at the end of that marking period.
Test Schedule
Tests in most subject areas will be given on a specific day of the week.
Science and Social Studies tests will be given as required by the nature of the
material covered. Students will be notified of these tests several days in
advance. To the best of our ability, we will try not to schedule more than 3
test/ quizzes on one day.
Tuesday--Spelling, Vocabulary
Workshop
Thursday—English, Math
Friday—Religion, Reading
