Counselor's Corner

Welcome to Mary, Queen of Peace

About Me:

I am Stephanie Strohmeyer, the School Counselor.  I feel very fortunate to say this my 4th year here.   I have been married to my husband for 10 years and we have 3 beautiful children.

My son is 7            and a 2nd grader at MQP.

My daughter is 4.

Our newest addition is 6 months old.

What I Do:

Elementary school counselors observe younger children during classroom and play activities and confer with their teachers and parents to evaluate the children’s strengths, problems, or special needs. In conjunction with teachers and administrators, they make sure that the curriculum addresses both the academic and the emotional development needs of students. Elementary school counselors do less vocational and academic counseling than do secondary school counselors.

School counselors at all levels help students to understand and deal with social, behavioral, and personal problems. These counselors emphasize preventive and developmental counseling to provide students with the life skills needed to deal with problems before they occur and to enhance student’s personal, social, and academic growth. Counselors provide special services, including alcohol and drug prevention programs and conflict resolution classes. They also try to identify abuse and other family problems that can affect a student’s development. Counselors interact with students individually, in small groups, or with entire classes. They consult and collaborate with parents, teachers, school administrators, school psychologists, medical professionals, and social workers in order to develop and implement strategies to help students be successful in the education system.

My Schedule:

I work on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7:30-3:00.   If you need to contact me on Tuesday or Thursday, please leave a message with the office.  674-2466. I check my messages daily.   You can also contact me via e-mail:  stefstroh@charter.net.

Speech and/or Academic Concerns:

Gifted Testing:

St.  Tammany Parish School System offers additional Enrichment Services (KEEP) for those who qualify for Gifted.  If you would like more information, or if you feel your child may qualify for the gifted program, please contact me.

Outside Counseling:

If you feel your child is in need of outside counseling, please feel free to contact me about referrals.  If you seek counseling on your own, please let us know if there is an issue we need to know about.   Outside situations can affect your child at school and we want to be aware so we can assist in any way possible.  Please know the situation will be handled with the utmost respect and confidentiality.
